“Home from home”
Mark, his wife and elderly parents: Stayed April 2024 and reviewed on TripAdvisor. “Our second trip in 7 months to The Dairy at West Heath Barn which for us is a very warm and welcoming “home from home.” I have been holidaying in Norfolk for as long as I can remember (50+ years) and find West Heath Barn to be the perfect location to really get away from it all. An idyllic setting, quiet and peaceful with plenty of walks and open countryside quite literally on your doorstep. Gill and David couldn’t be better hosts, always happy to help should you need anything , and they keep both the accommodation and the whole site immaculate …. West Heath Barn is very dog friendly with an ideal large “dog run” securely fenced right next to the living accommodation which is ideal for late night leg stretches. The owners dog is always happy to keep any other visiting dogs company should they so wish!
If you have any special requests Gill and David are always happy to help wherever possible but its unlikely you will need to ask for anything, most likely its already in a cupboard somewhere! … All in all a great place to stay to get away from it all, we will be back in the autumn”. “The perfect relaxing dog friendly getaway with lovely hosts!”
Helen and family: Stayed November 2023 and reviewed on TripAdvisor. “We just had the loveliest weekend away at The Dairy cottage in West Heath Barn – the property was really spacious but warm and cosy and everything was immaculately clean and finished to a very high standard. Beds were comfy and every detail was thought of. It really exceeded our expectations. Even had a cake waiting for us! The little paddock out the front was great for our greyhounds to have a safe runaround. A lovely bonus was seeing the 4 cute alpacas which the hosts kindly spent time for us to experience feeding and taking them for a little walk. My 10 year old daughter particularly enjoyed this exciting experience. The hosts were really friendly and helpful, and gave us some great recommendations of things to do and places to eat which were all fab. We drove up to the huge open beaches and there is a lot of stunning nature around, very relaxing area. 100% recommend!”. (for the full review view via the link here)
“Fantastic family accommodation in a beautiful area – the resident alpacas are a bonus”
Louise and family: Stayed July 2023 and reviewed on TripAdvisor. “West Heath Barn was absolutely perfect for our family (three adults, three kids – 10, eight and six – and a dog; we stayed in the Cart Lodge and its annexe room). Within five minutes of arriving the lovely owner Gill had whisked the kids off to feed her chickens, which they loved, but not as much as they loved frolicking with Gill and Dave’s energetic dog Woody (guests have access to a paddock for dog exercising their own dogs). The Cart Lodge is fantastically well-equipped (and my husband appreciated the strong wifi). Anything we had forgotten – salt and pepper, tin foil etc – we found in the kitchen. The location is great – 100m metres to Pedders Way for a country walk, while I got in a few 10K runs around the area. …. At the rear of the property is a field housing Gill and Dave’s (mainly Gill’s tbh) alpacas, Charlie, Oscar, Hemingway and Huxley. Gill kindly arranged a feeding and walking session with our extended family, which was a priceless highlight of the stay. We can’t wait to come back! Thanks Gill, Dave, Woody and the alpacas.”. “We keep returning … this time 4 generations!”
Sarah and family: Stayed October 2021 and reviewed on TripAdvisor. “This was our third holiday here and this time I was able to bring my parents … we’ve raved about it after being before and this time they got to see why … the setting is beautiful and the accommodation the very best you can get with the best hosts you could wish for. Over the years we have stayed in both The Dairy and The Cart Lodge and can highly recommend both. It’s an ideal, quiet location, to explore West and North Norfolk. Excellent if you have a dog. We will always return when we can”.
“Idyllic retreat”
Fiona and family: Stayed June 2021 and reviewed on TripAdvisor “This was our first stay at West Heath Barn but we will definitely be back. We took both self catering cottages so that we could be within Covid regulations and we couldn’t fault either cottage or our hosts. We were made to feel so welcome, with tasty lemon drizzle cake on our arrival! The cottages are very well fitted out, with everything you need to feel at home and be comfortable, and the grass outside meant that when the sun was shining we could eat outdoors. Would highly recommend, with a great location ideal for the pretty local village of Great Massingham and the Peddars Way walk”.
“A perfect post-lockdown escape”
Colin & family: Stayed August 2020 and reviewed on TripAdvisor “From the moment we arrived, our two-week stay was absolutely heavenly. The welcome was warm, The Dairy cottage was spacious, fabulously clean, well-equipped & maintained, and the resident alpacas were a constant delight for the kids. Gill & Dave have clearly worked hard at creating a wonderful holiday retreat. Their local knowledge of places to visit was much appreciated and their constant warmth & friendliness was wonderful, particularly in these unsettling Covid-19 times. We will definitely be visiting again.
“Post-lockdown treat”
Blewbrook: Stayed July 2020 and reviewed on TripAdvisor “What a treat it was to arrive at West Heath Barn to a warm welcome, cake and flowers in The Cart Lodge. Travelling anywhere post lockdown was always going to tentative but we need not have worried, given the wonderful preparation Gill and Dave had given to the lengthy Covid guidelines! The cottage was spotless and superbly comfortable without being fussy. All this meant that we could relax immediately and enjoy this beautiful area of Norfolk. The cottage amenities were perfect for us and our Labrador – fabulous walks from the doorstep, glorious beaches a short drive away and a village pub which we walked to through the fields. And it’s so peaceful too. I’m sure we will visit again before too long – we loved it!”
“Fantastic Haven”
Kath and friends: Stayed July 2019 and reviewed on TripAdvisor “We have just spent 5 days with friends at Gill and Dave’s beautiful B&B. Lovely accommodation and setting, Gill and Dave are extremely friendly and so helpful. Breakfast is absolutely lovely, nothing is too much trouble, Gill makes beautiful cakes and has a bottomless teapot. The Alpacas are extremely friendly and we so enjoyed feeding and spending time with them. Thank you so much for everything and hopefully see you again”.

Fantastic accommodation and hosts
The Dairy at West Heath Barn is superb in every respect – spacious, extremely comfortable, well-equipped and tastefully decorated. Its conversion from barn to superior accommodation has been done to an exceptionally high standard. The comprehensive information provided about the area was well organised and particularly useful.
The barn is convenient for getting to many of the lovely beaches of Norfolk as well as Sandringham and Houghton Hall.
Betty the dog enjoyed her time in the secure dog paddock too, especially when Woody joined her! It was lovely to watch them chasing about from the bench.
Gill and Dave are very kind and helpful hosts who really have thought of everything guests might need (and then provided it!) We appreciated the cake and very generous supply of toiletries awaiting us on arrival.
We have been holidaying in self-catering, dog-friendly accommodation for many years and believe it is one of the best, if not the best, we’ve stayed in.
We very much enjoyed our stay in The Dairy and hope to return. Many thanks Gill and Dave.
Wonderful dog friendly accommodation
We just spent a lovely 3 nights in Cart Lodge. Perfect for our family of 4 with 2 dogs. The accommodation is spotless and very well equipped with everything you need for a few nights away . Gill has thought of everything ! We also enjoyed the eggs from the hens and meeting the ‘boys’ – the alpacas and the walks from the farm with the dogs are great ! Great Massingham is a delight with excellent cafe and pub too. Hope to return one day . Thank you Gill and Dave

What a wonderful break we have enjoyed once more in the superb accommodation provided by Gill and Dave. Always a warm welcome with a delicious homemade cake, milk, flowers and this time free range eggs from the hens! The Cart Lodge provided everything we could wish for with such attention to detail and all spotlessly clean and every reassuring Covid safety measure in place. As ever we really didn’t want to leave and hope to be back again very soon in this fabulous accommodation enjoying this beautiful area that is so close to our hearts. Thankyou very much for everything.
